In March 2019, Year 4 and Upper Key Stage Two at Springfield Primary School worked on a school theme of real-life issues experienced by older people or someone with a disability for British Science Week. They called it “Fixperts”. It involved some of our volunteers, including our Chair, Sue Mosco. The volunteers visited each class and presented them with their real-life difficulty – the children then spent a busy week planning, designing and making a product to help the person with their problem. In the case of Sue, it was something to help her wash her back following an operation on her shoulder. The school said that “the engagement in learning from all was fantastic to see and the feedback from children has been very positive”.
